Nyota Ndogo explains why she fears marriage for her daughter
By Paulette Mboga, July 26, 2026Veteran musician Mwanaisha Abdalla, famously known as Nyota Ndogo, has shared why she fears the idea of her daughter getting married, saying the rise in relationship-related killings has changed how she thinks about marriage.
On Saturday, July 25, 2026, she explained that her daughter’s safety is more important to her than seeing her get married.
She explained that her comments came from the pain of seeing reports of people losing their lives in relationships. According to her, such stories have made her worry about what the future could look like for her daughter if she chooses to get married.

Nyota Ndogo said she would rather leave the decision of marriage to her daughter when the time comes. She added that if becoming a parent is her daughter’s dream, there are other safe ways she can have a child without feeling forced to get married.
Concern over relationship killings
She explained that the repeated cases she hears about have made her fearful. She said it is painful to see young women lose their lives because of relationships, and that is what has shaped her thoughts about marriage.

“Wengine wazazi wao hata hawawajui hao watu waliokuwa nao kwenye mahusiano,” Nyota Ndogo said.
The musician said such situations are worrying because some parents do not even know the people their children are dating. She explained that this makes the loss even more painful when something bad happens.
She said her greatest wish is to see her daughter safe and alive. Nyota Ndogo explained that while marriage will always be her daughter’s personal choice, her own hope is that her daughter never becomes a victim of violence in a relationship.
