Nana Owiti hints at ending Argentina support after World Cup loss to Spain

Media personality Nana Owiti has hinted at ending her long-standing support for Argentina following the team’s disappointing defeat to Spain during the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Nana, who has been an outspoken supporter of the Argentine national team, expressed her disappointment after the loss, suggesting that she was considering walking away from supporting the team.
In an emotional message shared on her social media platforms on Monday, July 20, 2026, Nana said she was slowly letting go of her identity as an Argentine fan, describing the team’s performance on football’s biggest stage as disappointing.
“As I slowly wash my hands off being an Argentine fan,” she wrote, adding that she never imagined she would reach a point where she would consider ending her journey with Argentina.
“I never thought I would say this, but maybe this is where my journey with Argentina ends.”
Nana further said the events surrounding the World Cup defeat left her deeply disappointed, describing what happened as distasteful, ugly and deeply disappointing.
“What happened on the biggest stage was, to say the least, distasteful, ugly and deeply disappointing,” Nana said.
Tribute to Messi
Despite her frustration with Argentina’s performance, Nana took time to pay tribute to Argentina captain Lionel Messi, acknowledging his contribution to football and the memories he has created throughout his career.
“But as the lights slowly begin to dim on Messi’s international career…I cannot leave without saying thank you, Leo,” she wrote.
Additionally, she thanked the football icon for the moments of joy, inspiration and emotions he has given fans around the world, noting that his legacy would remain bigger than any team, country or jersey.
“Thank you for the magic. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for making us believe, cry, celebrate and fall in love with football,” Nana added.
“Whatever happens next, your legacy will forever be bigger than any shirt, any country or any team. Thank you for everything, Messi.”
Her remarks come as Messi’s international career enters a defining stage, with many fans reflecting on his impact after years of representing Argentina at the highest level.
While Nana appeared frustrated with Argentina’s latest result, she made it clear that her admiration for Messi remains unchanged, praising his achievements and influence in the sport.
