Muhoozi Kainerugaba: I fear my father, Mzee Museveni

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has spoken about the people he fears, naming his father, President Yoweri Museveni, alongside his mother and two senior figures he described as his uncles.
In a post shared on his X page on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Muhoozi said his fears were not limited to those in positions of authority, beginning with his faith before turning to family members.
“People keep asking me what I fear; let me tell you. I fear God Almighty, my creator. I fear my father, Mzee Museveni. I fear my mother, Maama Janet. I fear Afande Saleh… my uncle. I also fear my second uncle, Afande Paul Kagame,” he wrote.
The post has drawn attention because of the senior positions held by the people he mentioned, particularly his father and Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
Who is Muhoozi Kainerugaba?
Muhoozi, 52 years old, is a senior Ugandan military officer and the current Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), a position he has held since March 2024.
He is the first-born son of Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni. He was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 1974, when his parents were living in exile during the period of political upheaval in Uganda.
Muhoozi joined the military in the late 1990s and has risen through several command positions before becoming the head of Uganda’s armed forces.
His public profile has also extended beyond his military career. He is known for his frequent and sometimes controversial posts on X, where he comments on Ugandan politics, regional affairs and his personal views.
His relationship with Museveni
Muhoozi’s relationship with his father has attracted considerable attention over the years, particularly because of his rise through the military and his position within Uganda’s political establishment.
In June 2026, he also responded to online claims questioning his parentage and ethnic background. Addressing a critic who demanded a DNA test to establish whether Museveni was his father, Muhoozi said he was ready for one.
“I am ready for the test,” he said at the time.
His latest remarks, however, presented a more personal side of his relationship with his father, describing Museveni as someone he fears and respects.
The Museveni family
Muhoozi is one of four children born to President Museveni and Janet Museveni. His siblings are Natasha Karugire, Patience Rwabwogo and Diana Kamuntu. The family has remained prominent in Uganda’s public life, with members involved in politics, business, ministry and other areas.
Muhoozi’s sister Patience was recently in the spotlight after she was consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop of Covenant Nations Church on August 23, 2026, following two decades in Christian ministry.
The ceremony was attended by her parents and several religious and political leaders, adding another public role to the Museveni family.
Muhoozi’s latest post therefore comes at a time when different members of the family continue to attract attention for their roles in Uganda’s military, political and religious life.
