Mexican influencer Cesar Gastelum shot dead during livestream

Mexican social media influencer Cesar Gastelum has been shot dead while livestreaming with friends outside a fast-food restaurant in Culiacán, Sinaloa, in a shocking attack that was partially captured on camera.
According to initial reports, Gastelum was live on social media on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, when two men riding a motorcycle approached him.
One of the persons of interest then opened fire, shooting the influencer in the head before fleeing the scene.
The attack occurred near the Sinaloa Prosecutor’s Office, an area that has been heavily affected by violence linked to ongoing disputes between rival criminal groups. The livestream abruptly ended following the shooting, leaving viewers in shock.
Authorities later confirmed that Gastelum died at the scene and immediately launched a security operation as investigators gathered evidence and searched for the attackers. No arrests had been announced at the time of publication.
Gastelum had built a large following on social media, attracting nearly 600,000 followers on TikTok through his comedy videos, livestreams, and content showcasing everyday life in Sinaloa.

Gastelum’s death also comes just months after Mexican influencer Valeria Márquez was fatally shot while livestreaming from her beauty salon, sparking renewed debate over the security risks faced by digital creators in the country.
Police have launched investigations to establish the motive behind Gastelum’s killing and identify those responsible. Authorities are reviewing evidence from the crime scene, witness accounts and the livestream footage as the search for the suspects continues.
As investigations continue, tributes have continued to pour in from fans across social media, with many mourning the loss of a creator whose life was cut short in a brazen daylight attack.
