A young man claiming to be the junior version of Kenyan amateur boxer and content creator Mbavu Destroyer has showcased a series of unusual fighting and fitness stunts as he sought to demonstrate why he believes he is capable of stepping into the shoes of the viral boxer.

In a TikTok video shared on Sunday, September 6, 2026, the self-styled Mbavu Destroyer Junior displayed his punching skills using a fallen banana stalk, repeatedly kicking and striking it as he put his strength and fighting ability on show.

The young man appeared determined to prove that his claim was not merely for show, unleashing a series of punches and kicks on the banana stalk as he demonstrated some of the tactics he has picked up.

He later showcased another unusual fitness routine in which he lifted two huge bunches of bananas and performed shoulder presses with them before carrying the heavy-looking loads away with apparent ease.

The stunt appeared designed to underline his physical strength, with the young man showing little indication that the weight of the bananas was slowing him down as he moved around with them.

In another video, he took inspiration directly from Mbavu Destroyer’s unconventional training routines by placing several heavy stones on his chest.

The self-styled Mbavu Destroyer Junior remained beneath the weight for several minutes before removing the stones one by one, using the display to underline his claim that he was physically fit and possessed a number of tactics that many people may have underestimated.

He also used the stunt to send a warning to his boxing rival Majembe, suggesting that he was prepared for a possible challenge and wanted his opponent to take his abilities seriously.

Most recognisable internet personality

The young man’s latest displays come months after Mbavu Destroyer became one of Kenya’s most recognisable internet personalities through a combination of boxing, comedy, provocative social media content and unconventional training routines.

Mbavu Destroyer, whose real name is Ferdinand Omondi, is a 25-year-old Kenyan amateur boxer, TikTok content creator and internet personality who rose to national fame in early 2026 after his rivalry with fellow amateur boxer Portifas Odipo, popularly known as Majembe, took social media by storm.

The two became the faces of the Vurugu Fight Night after their rivalry evolved from online exchanges and trash-talking into one of the most heavily publicised amateur boxing spectacles Kenya had witnessed in recent years.

Their verbal exchanges, TikTok Lives and provocative content attracted huge audiences, with supporters of the two fighters taking sides as anticipation for their eventual showdown continued to build.

Mbavu also became known for his unconventional training stunts, including placing heavy building blocks on his chest and carrying out other extreme exercises that formed part of the persona that helped propel him to fame.

His rise was also driven by the emotional story behind his decision to enter the boxing contest, with Mbavu repeatedly speaking about his desire to use the prize money to build a modern house for his mother.

Raised by a single mother in Migori County, Mbavu later moved to Nairobi, where he lived in areas including Dandora and Mbotela before eventually becoming a familiar face among Kenya’s rapidly growing community of digital content creators.

Before his rise to internet fame, Mbavu had also undergone training with the National Youth Service, where he received paramilitary training.

His unusual approach to training, combined with his outspoken personality and relentless trash-talking, helped transform what began as a social media rivalry into a national spectacle.

The highly anticipated Vurugu Fight Night was eventually held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi, with thousands of fans following the showdown between Mbavu and Majembe.
