Digital content creator Diana Marua has left fans amused after wondering what TikTok users do to receive Lion gifts, one of the platform’s most valuable virtual gifts.
During a light-hearted conversation with her sisters and hairstylists while having her wig fixed on Wednesday, July 29, Diana appeared surprised after learning that a TikTok Lion gift is worth about Ksh25,000.
Curious about how TikTokers receive the coveted virtual gift, the content creator jokingly admitted that she wanted one herself, prompting her to ask what TikTokers do to get Lion gifts.
“Lion ni Ksh25,000. Kule TikTok, watu hufanya nini ndio wapewe Lions? Because I need them right now,” Diana joked, sending those around her into laughter.
Diana’s prayer for divine favour
Her remarks come just days after she publicly prayed for divine favour and abundance, asking God to locate her with blessings as she reflected on the importance of trusting His timing and provision.
“I am calling favour; I am calling divine intervention. I am calling destiny helpers. I am calling abundance. I am calling everything good,” Diana called for divine intervention.
TikTok gifts
Although Diana’s comments were made in jest, they highlight the growing popularity of TikTok’s gifting culture, which has become an important source of income for many content creators. During live streams, viewers can purchase virtual gifts using TikTok Coins and send them to their favourite creators.
These gifts can later be converted into earnings, subject to TikTok’s policies and fees.
Among the most sought-after virtual gifts is the Lion, one of TikTok’s premium gifts, which is valued at about Ksh25,000. Receiving such gifts can significantly boost a creator’s earnings, making them highly desirable during live sessions.
In Kenya, many young people have embraced TikTok not just as a social media platform but also as a way to earn a living. They spend hours creating content, hosting live sessions, gaming, singing, dancing and interacting with followers in an effort to grow their audience and encourage viewers to send virtual gifts.
As creators build loyal online communities, supporters often reward them with gifts such as Roses, Universes and Lions to show appreciation for entertaining or engaging content.
