Kitt Kiarie opens up on peace she found after taking a social media break

Digital creator Kitt Kiarie has opened up about the peace she experienced after taking a break from social media, saying she last took a full break from the platforms almost five years ago.

On Sunday, August 9, 2026, she explained that returning to social media has remained difficult because of the messages people are exposed to online.

Kitt said being away from social media gave her a different kind of peace because she was no longer constantly seeing messages about how people should look, what they should buy or how women should behave. She described the feeling as something she found difficult to explain.

“The last time I took a full break from social media was almost 5 years ago. And it is still very difficult to return. The peace you feel when you’re not being bombarded with ‘be thin’, ‘buy more’, ‘as a woman’, is unprecedented,” Kitt Kiarie said.

Kitt explained that she would probably stay away from social media completely if she did not need the platforms for work. She joked that people would not see her online if work did not require her to remain there.

“If only I didn’t have to work here lol. Y’all would never see me again,” Kitt Kiarie said.

Kitt also explained what she did when she decided to take a break from social media. She said she removed Instagram from an easy-to-reach place on her phone because she had become used to opening the app without thinking about it.

“The first thing I did when I decided to take a break was delete the IG icon from my home screen. My finger clicks it automatically (yes, like an addiction),” Kitt Kiarie said.

Her experience comes at a time when social media has become a major part of daily life for many people. People use platforms to communicate, work, follow trends and keep up with events, but spending too much time online can also make it difficult for some to step away.

For some people, taking a break is a way to focus on other things away from their screens. It can also help them spend more time on work, family, hobbies and other activities without constantly checking social media.

Children and teenagers have also grown up around social media, making concerns about the amount of time they spend online more common. The platforms can expose young users to pressure about appearance, buying things and how they should live.
