Joyce Gituro and Jakes ask Kenyans to keep praying for Rose Mbugua’s family after her death

Veteran media personality Joyce Gituro and her son, radio presenter and online personality Jakes Nyanjom, have asked Kenyans to continue praying for the family of late journalist and content creator Rose Mbugua following her tragic death in a road accident.
In an emotional TikTok video on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the mother and son expressed appreciation as they thanked Kenyans for the overwhelming support, messages of condolence and prayers they have received since Rose’s death.
Jakes, who spoke first, explained that the family had lost someone very close to them, describing Rose as a close friend whose death had left a deep void.
“Hi guys, how good people! We have a message for you all. We want to say it,” Jakes said.
His mother, Joyce Gituro, then explained that Rose died on Friday the previous week, referring to the tragic accident that claimed the young journalist’s life.
“As you all know, and if you did not know, we lost a friend, a very close friend to our family. Her name is Rose. We lost her on Friday last week,” Gituro said.
The veteran media personality went on to thank Kenyans for standing with the family during the difficult period, particularly through the messages and support they continued to send following Rose’s sudden death.
“And we are here to say thank you so much. Thank you for the support. Thank you for the overwhelming messages,” she said.
Gituro also asked Kenyans to continue praying for Rose’s family, specifically mentioning her mother, sister, close family members and friends who have been left to cope with the loss.
“We continue praying for the family, the mother, the sister, the close family members, her friends,” she said.
She also urged the public to continue praying for Jakes and the people who had been close to Rose, noting that they had shared a long journey together.
“Continue praying for Jakes also. They have come a long way,” Gituro added.
Gituro then urged Kenyans to continue doing good, saying that Rose was a good person and that her life should inspire others to show kindness.
“So we are here to just say thank you. May God bless you. The most important thing in this life is to keep doing good because Rose was a good girl. Let’s keep doing good and God will bless you,” she said.
Untimely demise
Rose died on the evening of Friday, July 17, 2026, following a road accident along Uhuru Highway near the University Way and University of Nairobi roundabout.
According to the information provided in earlier reports, Rose was travelling as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle heading towards Nairobi’s city centre from Westlands when the rider reportedly lost control after hitting the pavement.
The motorcycle subsequently crashed into a concrete mixer truck, with the impact throwing Rose from the motorcycle and leaving her with fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rose was 24 years old and had previously worked as a journalist with the Radio Africa Group and The Star, where she was remembered as a talented digital journalist with a passion for storytelling.
Her connection to the Nyanjom family also extended beyond her professional life. She had appeared in several videos alongside Jakes and his mother, making her familiar to many of their followers.
“Those who follow Jakes Nyanjom and I must have seen this girl in three of our videos,” Gituro wrote in an earlier tribute.
She described Rose’s death as a devastating blow to the family, saying they had known and loved her.
“It is such a blow to my family. We knew her, we loved her, and we are totally devastated,” she stated.
He previously revealed that he and Rose’s friends had gathered for a candle-lighting vigil to honour her memory and celebrate her life.
“Hi Rose, so today marks one week since we last met and talked to each other. We had a candle-lighting ceremony for you,” Nyanjom wrote.
