Inspekta Mwala tells God to remove selfishness from Kenya’s leaders

Veteran Kenyan actor, comedian and radio presenter Davis Hezron Mwabili, popularly known as Inspekta Mwala, has shared an emotional prayer for Kenya, calling on God to guide the country’s leaders and protect the nation from conflict.

In a Facebook message on Sunday July 19, 2026, Mwala prayed for peace and calm across the country, saying his biggest wish was for Kenya to remain united despite the challenges facing it.

The actor specifically prayed for the country’s leadership, asking God not to allow them to steer Kenya into internal conflict.

“Baba wa mbinguni tunaomba amani na utulivu kwa nchi yetu ya Kenya hasa viongozi wetu wasije wakatumbukizi nchi hii kwenye vita vya wenyewe kwa wenyewe,” Mwala wrote.

He further prayed that leaders would receive wisdom and guidance to understand the true purpose of leadership by putting the interests of ordinary citizens before their own.

“Wape muongozo wa kuona umuhimu wa kuongoza na kujali maslahi ya raia wake,” he added.

Mwala also asked God to remove selfishness and the desire for personal glory from those in positions of authority, saying leaders should be driven by service rather than self-interest.

“Uwaondolee huyo roho ya ubinasi na kujitakia makuu,” he wrote.

The celebrated comedian concluded his prayer by asking God to remain present in the lives of Kenyans and continue reigning in their hearts at all times.

“Uwepo wako na utawale ndani mwetu kila wakati tunalitukuza jina lako… Amen,” Mwala concluded.

Heightened political temperatures

Mwala’s prayer comes at a time when Kenya continues to grapple with heightened political temperatures following the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, an exercise that was overshadowed by violence and the deaths of two residents.

The by-election, held on Thursday, July 16, was won by Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho, who defeated his rivals to become the new Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou.

Despite the successful conclusion of the vote, the exercise was marred by violent confrontations in several polling centres, with scenes of chaos, running battles and attacks circulating widely on social media.

The unrest also sparked widespread public debate after two men lost their lives during the violence.

One of the deceased was identified as James Muigai Mwathi, a resident of Kaimbaga Ward, while the second victim, Zachariah Gakinya Mukora, was a truck driver from Rurii Ward who had travelled home to cast his vote before he was caught up in the violence.

Their deaths prompted an outpouring of grief from family members, residents, politicians and public figures across the country.

Kameme FM presenter and content creator Muthoni Wakirumba, popularly known as Babytop, was among those who spoke out, describing the deaths as heartbreaking and calling for justice for the two men.

In an emotional message, Babytop questioned why innocent Kenyans had to lose their lives while exercising their democratic right to vote, urging authorities to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

The violence also renewed calls from residents and leaders for greater political tolerance, peaceful elections and stronger security measures during future polls.
