Hatukupewa visa: Masagara explains why he missed Manchester United match Ruto had promised

Manchester United superfan Kevin Masagara has finally explained why he did not travel to the United Kingdom to watch his favourite club despite President William Ruto’s promise to sponsor the trip earlier this year.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Tony Mwirigi, Masagara revealed that visa delays and ticketing challenges prevented the much-anticipated trip from taking place.
“Ilifatwende huko lakini so many things came up; kulikuwa na delay ya visa, tena kulikuwa na mambo ya ticketing ilikuwa ni shida,” Masagara explained.
Masagara explained that although efforts were made to facilitate the travel, the visa applications were not approved in time.
“Barua iliandikwa tupewe visa lakini bado hatukupewa visa,” he added.
Masagara on Ruto’s part
When asked why Ruto did not intervene to ensure they obtained the visas, Masagara defended the head of state, saying he was preoccupied with official duties.
“By that time, the president alikuwa busy alikuwa na president wa France; yeye hakuwa anafollow hizo story,” Masagara stated.
Despite the setback, Masagara remains optimistic that the trip will eventually happen.
“Lakini tutaenda next season,” he added.
Ruto’s promised UK trip
The explanation comes months after Ruto promised to fly Masagara and fellow football enthusiast Useful Idioty to England to watch Manchester United and Arsenal play live.
The pledge was made during a conversation with Lang’ata MP Felix Oduwour, widely known as Jalang’o.
“Kuna kijana anaitwa Masagara, Masagara is Kenya’s number one Manchester fan na anataka kuenda Old Trafford. He has never watched Manchester play live, and he is the number one supporter. Jalang’o told Ruto during their conversation.
“Unajua mimi ni fan wa Arsenal, na sasa unaniambia maneno ya Manchester United, basi tafadhali tafuta Useful Idioty; huyo jamaa nataka pia nimsponsor,” Ruto said.
“Kama umekubali Useful Idioty aende Emerits basi mimi pia nitasponsor huyo Masagara aende Old Trafford. Wacha niwanunulie business class ticket na niwalipie accommodation.”
The announcement generated excitement among football lovers, with many expecting the duo to fulfil a lifelong dream of watching a Premier League match at Old Trafford and the Emirates Stadium.
However, months passed without any public update on the planned trip, prompting speculation over whether the promise would be honoured.
Masagara has now clarified that the travel plans did not collapse because of a change of heart but because of logistical hurdles involving visa processing and ticketing.
Although disappointed that the opportunity slipped away, the die-hard Manchester United supporter expressed confidence that he and Useful Idioty will finally make the journey next season if the travel arrangements are successfully completed
