Derrick Omollo: First candle-lighting for JKUAT TikToker who died after quarry fall to be held in Juja

The very first candle-lighting vigil in honour of popular JKUAT TikToker Derrick Omollo, who died after falling into a quarry, will be held tomorrow, Friday, September 4, 2026.

The confirmation was shared on TikTok by a popular Juja lounge on Thursday, September 3, 2026, which revealed that everyone attending the vigil will also observe a moment of silence at exactly 12 o’clock midnight in remembrance of the late content creator.

According to the information shared, the vigil will begin at 6 pm at the popular Kwa Jose Lounge in Juja and will continue into the early hours of the night as his friends and fellow content creators gather to remember the life he lived and the memories he left behind.

The candle-lighting ceremony is expected to bring together Derrick’s friends, fellow TikTokers, fans and other people who knew him as they come together to honour his memory and reflect on a life that was cut short at the height of his growing popularity.

Untimely demise

Derrick Omollo died in Juja after a desperate attempt to escape from thugs who had attacked him and his friends ended in tragedy.

The popular JKUAT TikToker was among five people who had gone out for a walk when they were attacked by thugs, forcing the group to scatter as they desperately tried to flee from the attackers.

His friend and fellow TikToker Mildred confirmed his death on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, explaining that Derrick had fled towards the quarry while trying to escape from the attackers.

Mildred said all five people attempted to escape after the attack, but Derrick ran towards the quarry, where he eventually died.

“To those who do not know what happened, after confirming from various sources, yes, it is true. Thugs attacked them, and they tried escaping, and that is how he fled on the quarry side and died,” Mildred said.

The circumstances surrounding his final moments have since added a painful dimension to the death of the young content creator, whose life came to an abrupt end while he was still building his name and following online.

Derrick had carved a niche for himself as a popular skit maker whose creative content had earned him a sizeable following, particularly among students and young people associated with JKUAT and the wider Juja community.
