Charlene Ruto celebrates being welcomed into fiancé’s Tanzanian family after dowry negotiations

Kenya’s First Daughter, Charlene Chelagat Ruto, has expressed gratitude to her family and community for supporting her during her dowry negotiations as she prepares to marry her Tanzanian fiancé, Isaiah Yunge.

In a Facebook post on Monday, August 10, 2026, Charlene thanked those who stood by her during the important cultural occasion and expressed her appreciation to Yunge for honouring her by formally asking for her hand in marriage.

“Grateful for my family’s and community’s support in my dowry negotiation and my dear husband-to-be @isayayunge for honouring me by asking for my hand,” Charlene wrote.

The first daughter also used the post to acknowledge her future husband, describing him as her dear husband-to-be and thanking him for formally seeking her hand in marriage.

She further revealed that she had been accepted by Yunge’s family in Tanzania, describing the development as a particularly meaningful part of the occasion.

“Delighted to be accepted by my Tanzanian family from Mwanza,” she wrote.

Charlene also revealed that her hubby is from Mwanza, a small town located in northwestern Tanzania, situated on the southern shores of Lake Victoria.
Koito preparations

On the same day, Charlene also revealed the extensive team of beauty professionals and women who helped her prepare for her traditional Kalenjin engagement and farewell ceremony, known as Koito ak Chaik.

She disclosed that she woke up as early as 5 am to begin preparations for the highly anticipated ceremony, which brought together prominent political, business, entertainment and cultural figures.

“Woke up at 5 a.m. to get ready with the women in my life,” Charlene wrote.

The First Daughter revealed that her preparations involved six make-up artists, three hair stylists and about 30 women who were part of the team helping her get ready for the major occasion.

She also disclosed that a popular city make-up artist handled her make-up, while another well-known hair stylist was responsible for her hairstyle.

Charlene thanked the beauty team for helping her achieve the look she wanted for the ceremony, describing their contribution as part of the effort that went into making the day special.

“Woke up at 5 a.m. to get ready with the women in my life. My makeup: Melissa Lesilale. My hair: Judy Wangari. 6 make-up artists, 3 hair stylists, 30 women,” she wrote.

The first daughter also offered a glimpse into the last-minute challenges that accompanied her wedding preparations, revealing that her original dress did not work out as planned.

She said a popular city fashion designer stepped in and managed to deliver her first dress within a single day after the initial outfit failed to work.

Charlene described the quick turnaround as remarkable, especially because the designer had promised years earlier that she would make her wedding dress.

“I do not know how she did it, but she delivered my first dress in a day after my original one did not work out,” Charlene wrote.
