Cassypool reveals why Babu Owino called him after Nairobi gubernatorial bid announcement
By Valerian Khakayi, June 7, 2026Renowned Kenyan social commentator and influencer Kevin Onyango Odhiambo, widely known as Cassypool Capon, has opened up on a surprising moment after he announced his bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, revealing that Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino was among the few people who reached out to him.
According to Cassypool, the reaction from his friends after making the political declaration was largely muted, with most of them choosing not to congratulate him.
Speaking during an interview on Saturday, June 6, 2026, he revealed that the youthful lawmaker congratulated him and told him it was a great move, despite the two being political opponents.
“When I declared that I am vying for the seat of governor, 90 per cent of my friends did not congratulate me. The only person who did was Babu Owino, and he is my opponent; he told me, ‘Great move. All the best,'” Cassypool said.

Gubernatorial bid
Cassypool’s remarks come as he positions himself for a bigger political role, having already announced his intention to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general election.
The vocal entertainer, on December 1, 2025, said that he aspires to be Nairobi’s next governor, adding that he does not intend to campaign by attacking the current leadership.
“Yeah, I’m vying for the governor’s seat. I want to be the governor of Nairobi. I don’t want to talk about Sakaja; he is doing his work. I don’t want to be the type of politician who talks ill of other politicians. Sakaja is working; he is doing his best. Tukutane sisi sote 2027, Sakaja, Babu Owino. So I will not badmouth Sakaja; he is working, and I’ve worked with him on several projects,” Cassypool stated.
“Mimi nasimama kuwa governor wa Nairobi. Bahati ni mtu unahesabu kusimama, Governor? Nakuambia watu nitatandika ni Sakaja na Babu Owino.”

Cassypool on Babu’s leadership
Speaking about Babu Owino’s political career, Cassypool praised his leadership, describing him as a good leader and adding that he is a youthful, determined lawmaker.
He argued that Owino’s political influence and appeal among young people make him suitable for a bigger role on the national stage, suggesting that he could serve as deputy president to better represent Gen Z interests.
“Babu Owino is a good leader; he is better than me 100 per cent. Ni kijana ambaye amejituma na ameenda mbele sana, but I want to tell Babu Owino that he is bigger than the Nairobi governor seat. Let him come; I negotiate for him with William Ruto so that he can be the deputy president and represent Gen Z,” Cassypool said.
“Babu Owino is a good leader; let him deputise Ruto to represent Gen Z.”
