Boni Khalwale marks spot for wife’s grave as her body arrives home in huge procession

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has identified the spot where the grave of his beloved wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, will be dug at their Malinya home and has even cleared the ground as preparations for the grave digging get underway.
This happened on the afternoon of Thursday, August 20, 2026, after Gloria’s body arrived at their family home from the mortuary aboard a hearse that was led by a huge procession of boda-boda riders, residents and high-end vehicles that formed part of the Senator’s convoy.
In a livestream on Khalwale’s Facebook page, hundreds of boda boda riders waving flags are seen leading the procession out of the St Elizabeth Mukumu Hospital mortuary and joining a major highway, where other vehicles followed behind playing loud music.
The procession went on for hours before finally arriving at Khalwale’s palatial home, where school buses carrying mourners from different parts of the country were waiting to receive Gloria’s body.
The video showed the casket being placed at a designated area within the family compound before Khalwale proceeded to view it alongside other prominent Kenyan politicians who had arrived to mourn with him and offer their condolences to the bereaved family.

Among those who attended the occasion was Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, who arrived with several cattle for Khalwale as a gesture of condolence and solidarity during the senator’s period of grief.
Following the emotional homecoming, Khalwale took to social media to thank Governor Barasa for visiting his Malinya home and standing with his family following the death of his wife.
In the message, Boni appreciated the Governor for taking time to visit the family during what he described as a difficult period.
“Kakamega Governor H.E. Fernandes Barasa today visited my Malinya home to condole with me and my family following the heartbreaking loss of my beloved wife, Mama Gloria Khalwale,” he wrote.
Khalwale said Barasa’s presence at the family home had provided comfort as relatives and friends continued to come to terms with Gloria’s sudden death.
“I sincerely appreciate the Governor for taking time to stand with us during this difficult period,” he wrote, adding that the Governor’s “message of comfort, presence and solidarity” meant a great deal to both him and his family.
He also extended his gratitude to those who had continued to stand with the family following Gloria’s death, saying their support had been significant during the period of grief.
“May God bless you, Governor, and everyone who continues to stand with us in this time of grief,” Khalwale wrote.
Untimely demise
According to Khalwale’s official announcement, Gloria suddenly collapsed and died from a heart attack, leaving the family and those close to her mourning her unexpected passing.
Gloria, who was born in 1981, was aged either 44 or 45 at the time of her death.
She was also the mother of eight of Khalwale’s children, making her death a particularly significant loss for the Senator and his family.
News of her death triggered an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, friends, relatives and residents who knew the family.
Gloria’s burial service is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the family home in Malinya, Ikolomani Constituency, Kakamega County.
