Bishop Margaret Wanjiru makes ‘One Term’ declaration as she takes Nairobi governor bid to voters

In a Facebook post on Saturday, September 12, 2026, Wanjiru made the declaration while sharing her political position on the emerging opposition alliance, making it clear that her interpretation of the “One Term” campaign extends to both national and county leadership.
“We are in the United Alternative Government. We are saying ONE Term to both the current National and County Leadership. It’s not game as usual,” Wanjiru wrote.
Her remarks signal her alignment with the opposition coalition’s broader push to challenge the current political leadership at both levels of government, while also placing her Nairobi governor ambitions within the alliance’s emerging political strategy.
The declaration comes days after the Kenya Moja Movement officially announced Wanjiru as its candidate for the Nairobi governor position, setting the stage for her return to elective politics as she seeks to take charge of Kenya’s capital.
In a statement issued by the party’s Secretary General, Moses Gachugi, the Kenya Moja Movement said Wanjiru had officially announced her candidature for the Nairobi governor seat.
“The Party Leader of the Kenya Moja Movement Party, Hon. Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, has officially announced her candidature for the position of Governor of Nairobi County,” the statement read.
The party said Nairobi needed a governor capable of establishing effective systems to improve service delivery to residents, while addressing some of the longstanding challenges facing the capital.
“The City of Nairobi needs a Governor who will put effective systems in place to ensure efficient delivery of services,” the party said.
Kenya Moja Movement further identified cleanliness among the issues it wants the next Nairobi administration to tackle, arguing that the city’s streets need to be cleaned and other challenges affecting residents addressed decisively.
“Our streets must be clean and the challenges facing Nairobi residents addressed once and for all,” the statement added.
The party expressed confidence in Wanjiru’s ability to provide what it described as decisive leadership, urging Nairobi residents to consider her as a suitable candidate for the county’s top office.
“As a Party, we are very hopeful that the people of Nairobi will consider Bishop Margaret Wanjiru as the most suitable candidate to Clean the Mess in Nairobi County and provide the decisive leadership required to transform our city,” Kenya Moja Movement said.
The party also wished Wanjiru well as she begins engaging with Nairobi residents ahead of the campaigns, signalling its intention to support her as she seeks to build a political base across the county.
“We wish Hon. Bishop Margaret Wanjiru all the best as she engages with the people of Nairobi during the upcoming campaigns,” the statement said.
Kenya Moja Movement further linked Wanjiru’s gubernatorial bid to the wider United Alternative Government, saying it would work alongside other members of the opposition alliance in its broader political mission.
“We look forward to working alongside other members of the United Alternative Government in our shared efforts to liberate Kenya from bad leadership and to advance the full implementation of Social Justice for all Kenyans,” the party stated.
