Beatrice Chebet shares joy as she welcomes baby boy
Olympic and world champion runner Beatrice Chebet has announced the arrival of her baby boy, marking a new personal chapter away from competitive athletics.
In an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the Kenyan long-distance star revealed that she gave birth on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
She accompanied the announcement with tender photos showing her newborn’s tiny hands and feet, alongside a heartfelt message celebrating motherhood.
“He is here. Our hearts are full and our lives forever changed. We are blessed. Tiny hands, tiny feet, and a love so big. A beautiful new chapter begins. Welcome to our world our sweet little baby boy,” she wrote.
Chebet’s announcement comes months after she stepped away from athletics to focus on motherhood, following a standout 2025 season that cemented her status among the world’s top distance runners.

At the time, she said she wanted to dedicate time to her pregnancy, delivery and early motherhood before considering a return to competition.
Golden season
Her break follows a historic year on the track, where she dominated Diamond League meetings in Xiamen, Rabat, Rome and Eugene.
Chebet also made global headlines after breaking the women’s 5000m world record, becoming the first woman to run under 14 minutes in the event with a time of 13:58.06.
She later crowned her season with double gold at the World Championships in Tokyo, winning both the 5000m and 10,000m titles.

The achievement placed her among Kenya’s most decorated distance runners and strengthened her position on the global athletics stage.
Chebet’s break places her among a growing list of elite Kenyan athletes who have taken time off for motherhood and returned to top-level competition.
The most notable example is Faith Kipyegon, who came back from maternity leave to dominate middle-distance running and set multiple world records.
