From track triumphs to motherhood: Beatrice Chebet embraces new chapter

Double Olympic and world champion Beatrice Chebet is stepping into a profoundly personal and transformative phase of her life, motherhood.

The Kenyan long distance sensation took a maternity break in early January 2026. The 25-year-old Kenyan distance runner will miss the entire 2026 season, including the World Cross Country Championships, following a stellar 2024–2025 season where she broke world records and secured multiple titles.

New chapter

Known for her fierce dominance on the track and her unwavering determination in international competitions, Chebet is now preparing for a different kind of journey, one that trades the roar of stadium crowds for the gentle rhythm of a heartbeat growing within.

As the world gears up to mark Mother’s Day, the spotlight shifts to celebrating women not just for their professional milestones, but also for the deeply human experiences that shape their lives. For Chebet, this moment represents both, a continuation of excellence and the beginning of something beautifully new.

Her rise in athletics has been nothing short of inspiring. From clinching global titles to consistently placing Kenya on the world map in long-distance running, Chebet has built a reputation defined by grit and grace.

Yet, beyond the medals and podium finishes lies a young woman now embracing the anticipation, vulnerability, and joy that come with expecting a child.

The World Champion has linked up with her fellow global stars on the track, Faith Kipyegon and Peres Chepchirchir for a baby shower, joyfully displaying a baby bump. Following the development, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) has celebrated Chebet ahead of 2026 Mother’s Day:

”As we approach Mother’s Day, we celebrate Beatrice Chebet not just for the medals and milestones, but for this deeply beautiful new chapter of becoming. From chasing dreams on the track to soon holding one in her arms. A new kind of victory is on the way and we can’t wait.” NOCK said in a statement on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

In the 2024 Olympic Games, Beatrice Chebet conquered and lifted two golds in disciplines that saw top stars compete. Chebet won gold medals in both 5000m and 10,000 metres, beating Faith Kipyegon and other global superstars.
