Bag ni ya nini?: Jeff Koinange responds to viral Gen Z question after presenter corners him in US

Media personality Jeff Koinange is among the Kenyan public figures who have found themselves swept into the growing buzz surrounding the latest Gen Z slang, ‘Bag ni ya nini?’, after a Kenyan presenter threw the viral question at him moments after he landed in the US, where he is expected to headline a show this Saturday.
In a video shared on TikTok on Thursday, August 13, 2026, Jeff is seen being handed a bouquet after landing in Seattle before proceeding to greet a section of the Kenyan delegation that had gathered at the airport to welcome him.
At the time, a presenter clad in a black T-shirt emblazoned with the Kenyan flag began interviewing him, and almost immediately after their conversation started, he sprang the now-viral ‘Bag ni ya nini?’ question on the veteran media personality.
“They are telling me to ask you, ‘Bag ni ya nini?’” the presenter asked.
Jeff laughed after hearing the question before going ahead to give the expected response, ‘Alele mtoto’, although he immediately appeared unsure whether the answer he had offered was indeed correct.
“Alele mtoto. Sijui, but hiyo,” he said.
His pronunciation of ‘Alele’, delivered with unmistakable traces of his English accent, sent the presenter into laughter, with Jeff also joining in as the two shared a light-hearted moment while catching up at the airport.
Long journey
Further, Jeff also opened up about his journey from Kenya to the US, describing the flight as arguably a lengthy one while thanking God that they had arrived safely.
He spoke about his excitement at being in Seattle and also clarified that he does not know the song ‘Tunaenda Seattle’ by Pastor Ng’ang’a after the presenter put him on the spot with yet another question.
“It has been fantastic. Long flight, took forever, and now we are here in Seattle. About the song by Pastor Ng’ang’a that says ‘Tunaenda Seattle’, I have not heard that one, haha,” Jeff said.
Jeff then spoke about the main reason for his trip to Seattle, saying he will be hosting a country Mugithi show.
He urged Kenyans living in the US to turn up in large numbers, promising that the show, which will also feature popular Mugithi artistes including Samidoh, Kareh B, Sir Elvis and DJ Pierra Makena, will offer an experience unlike the usual.
“I would tell people to all come out this Saturday, August 15. It is going to be smoking. We are here, and let us do this thing,” he added.
