‘Avoid collaboration with Diamond for better comeback’ – Director Trevor tells Zuchu

Content creator and filmmaker Director Trevor has shared his thoughts on what Tanzanian singer Zuchu should do after welcoming her first child, saying the period following motherhood could determine the next chapter of her music career.
In a series of posts shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the filmmaker said the singer’s return to the industry should focus on rebuilding her identity as an artist rather than allowing public conversations about her relationship with Diamond Platnumz to overshadow her music.
His comments come just days after Zuchu and Diamond welcomed their newborn daughter, a moment that attracted attention across East Africa and sparked renewed interest in their relationship.
Trevor warns against losing her identity
According to Trevor, Zuchu is entering a delicate stage in her career because many fans are currently more interested in her family life than her music.
He noted that audiences in Tanzania closely follow celebrity relationships, family matters and entertainment news, which could shift attention away from her artistic achievements. “There’s already a lot of curiosity around her and Diamond, and whether we like it or not, Tanzanian audiences love relationships, family, gossip and drama,” Trevor wrote.
He added that the greatest risk is that people could slowly stop discussing her as a musician and instead begin identifying her primarily through her relationship. “The danger is that Zuchu could slowly start being discussed more as ‘Diamond’s baby mama’ than as Zuchu the artist.”
Why Trevor believes her comeback matters
The director also explained why he believes the singer’s first move after maternity leave should be carefully planned.
He advised her against making an immediate musical comeback through a collaboration with Diamond, saying timing would play an important role in shaping public perception. “One thing I honestly think Zuchu should avoid is making her first major comeback move a collaboration with Diamond,” he said.
Trevor clarified that he was not opposed to the pair working together. Instead, he argued that Zuchu should first remind audiences why they connected with her music in the first place. “Let Zuchu come back as Zuchu,” he said.
He suggested that if a collaboration became unavoidable, it should focus on celebrating the birth of their daughter rather than turning every major career decision into a discussion about their relationship.
Reintroducing the artist behind the headlines
Trevor also encouraged the singer’s management team to use this period to reintroduce her to fans.
He argued that motherhood could become an opportunity to tell a broader story about her personal growth and artistic journey. “Give us the woman. Give us the mother. Give us the artist. Give us the story. But most importantly, give us Zuchu without Diamond,” he said.
He also questioned the direction of her music, saying her catalogue sometimes appeared to target different audiences without a clear artistic identity. “There is nothing wrong with versatility, but versatility without direction can become confusion,” Trevor explained.
A new chapter for Zuchu and Diamond
Recently, Diamond and Zuchu announced the arrival of their baby girl through emotional social media posts. Diamond welcomed his daughter by writing, “Welcome to the world, our precious little angel. You are already loved more than words can ever say.”
Despite experiencing public relationship challenges over the past year, the two have remained present in each other’s lives, particularly during important family moments, including the pregnancy announcement, the baby shower and the birth of their daughter.
