Amberay: I don’t want my daughter to grow up to be just like me

Socialite Amberay has opened up about the kind of woman she hopes her daughter will become.

She said she does not want her daughter to grow up to be just like her but instead to become an even freer and more confident person.

“This little getaway reminded me of something…” Amberay said.

Amberay explained that her wish is for her daughter to enjoy freedoms that she had to learn over time. She said she hopes her daughter grows into a woman who is confident in herself and unafraid to make her own choices.

“I don’t want my daughter @africanahrapudo to grow up to be just like me. I want her to be even freer,” Amberay said.

She went on to describe the qualities she hopes her daughter will have as she grows older. Amberay said she wants her to believe in herself and never feel guilty for standing up for who she is.

“I want her to trust herself deeply, speak her mind without fear, walk away from what doesn’t serve her, dream without limits, and never apologise for taking up space,” she said.

Hopes for her daughter’s future

Amberay explained that she hopes her daughter will learn these lessons earlier than she did. She said if that happens, she will feel that she has played her role well as a mother.

“If she grows into everything I had to learn the hard way… then I’ll know I did something right,” Amberay said.

Her latest message reflects views she has shared before about creating a better future for the younger generation. Amberay has previously spoken about the importance of treating children with kindness and protecting them from harmful practices.

In 2025, Amberay also spoke about how her generation of aunties and uncles should treat young members of their families differently. She said they should avoid taking advantage of their nieces and nephews or exposing them to harmful cultural practices.

“We will be the first generation of aunties and uncles that doesn’t bewitch our own nieces and nephews, a generation that doesn’t ask our own nephews and nieces to come work as maids after high school in the name of helping them! Cheers to us,” Amberay said.
