Captain Sammir breaks up with Gilo Ntinyari months after colourful church wedding

By , March 12, 2026

Barely a month after exchanging vows in a colourful church ceremony in Meru, the marriage between US-based Kenyan TikToker Captain Sammir and fellow content creator Gilo Ntinyari has come to a dramatic end, with the two publicly confirming that they had gone their separate ways.

The unexpected breakup has left many of their followers stunned, considering the pair had only recently celebrated their union in a wedding that drew widespread attention on TikTok.

Unavoidable development

Speaking in an emotional address on Thursday, March 12, 2026, Gilo confirmed that she had decided to end the marriage and went on to ask for forgiveness from people who had supported the union.

She first directed her apology to the priest who officiated their church wedding and to the congregation that witnessed the ceremony, acknowledging that she felt remorseful about the decision to walk away from the marriage.

“To my priest and to the people who witnessed my wedding to Captain Sammir, I am requesting that you guys forgive me. I am asking for forgiveness for making that decision to end our marriage. I feel bad but I have to talk,” she said.

Gilo also apologised to members of her family, including her elder sister Mercy, her brother John and another sister identified as Kiki, saying a lot had happened online following the wedding.

The TikToker further extended her apology to her fans and to anyone she felt she might have wronged, expressing regret over the turn of events.

“Also, to my elder sister Mercy, I am sorry. A lot has happened online here and also to my brother John, sorry, and to my third sister Kiki, also sorry,” Gilo added.

While explaining her decision, Gilo maintained that ending the marriage had been her personal choice and insisted that she had not been influenced by anyone to make the move.

However, she admitted that she had grown tired of the relationship and therefore felt it was better to step away.

“To my fans and to the people whom I wronged, I am extremely sorry from the bottom of my heart. I want to make a new decision, and to end the marriage was also my choice. I was not influenced by anyone but I am tired, and that’s why I decided to end the relationship, but I cannot reveal what it is that made me quit so early. I just don’t want that relationship,” she added.

Despite confirming the breakup, she declined to reveal the specific issues that led her to leave the marriage so soon after the wedding.

Sammir downplays the marriage

On his part, Sammir spoke bitterly about Gilo, claiming that he had not spent any money on the wedding.

He went on to suggest that the ceremony had not been particularly significant to him, explaining that he had participated in similar situations on TikTok before while drunk.

“That wedding I did not even spend even one shilling, and I mentioned it while I was drunk, and people thought I was just saying it. And you see, I have married many people here on TikTok while drunk, and so it was just the same with Gilo,” Sammir said.

According to Sammir, he had simply found that Gilo had already organised the wedding plans, and he ended up showing up for the ceremony without playing a major role in arranging it.

He also claimed that people who thought he had been manipulated by the situation were mistaken, arguing that he had instead outsmarted them.

“So I had just been drunk, and I just found that Gilo had planned a wedding where I would marry her, and you all even saw it during that wedding; I was just there. I just showed up for the sake of it,” Sammir said.

Sammir further stated that he had never intended to bring Gilo to live with him in the United States, saying he could not consider relocating a Kenyan woman there because he believed it would eventually become stressful for him.

“And they thought I was foolish, but now I have beaten them in their own game. And I could not have brought Gilo to stay with me here in the USA. No, I cannot bring a Kenyan girl here because she will just be a stress to me,” he added.

Beautiful church wedding

The couple had tied the knot in early January 2026 during a church wedding in Meru, Gilo’s home county.

The ceremony attracted widespread attention online and within the local community.

Videos shared at the time showed Sammir walking Gilo down the aisle inside the Catholic church as guests sang Meru wedding songs before a priest blessed the union. The two later exchanged rings and signed their marriage certificate before proceeding to a lively reception.

The wedding had also attracted public interest because it took place just days after Sammir’s former partner Hanna Benta welcomed a newborn baby.
