Betty Bayo’s widower, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, has addressed recent concerns regarding his stepdaughter, Sky and her use of a mobile phone, following advice from comedian Dr Ofweneke.

Dr Ofweneke had suggested the young girl should stay off social media for a while.

Responding on Saturday, December 7, 2025, to a TikTok comment, Tash described Sky as a bright and resilient girl who lost her mother at a tender age and has had to navigate challenges that would overwhelm many children.

Despite the grief and sense of loss, Tash says Sky has shown remarkable strength and has been finding ways to cope with life without her mother.

Recently, Dr Oweneke had expressed concern over Sky having a phone, arguing that it might be too much responsibility, a potential source of distraction, or even a cause of emotional isolation.

While Tash understands the concerns, he believes that having a phone is not inherently harmful. In fact, he says it could be a lifeline for his daughter, offering both emotional and practical support during a difficult time.

According to Tash, the phone allows Sky to stay connected with family, friends, and the wider world in ways that are comforting and stabilising.

“After her mother passed, she lost not just a parent but also a pillar of emotional support. The phone gives her a way to reach out when she feels lonely, sad, or confused,” he explained.

He says video calls, messages, and social media provide Sky with moments of connection and reassurance that help her feel supported.

Beyond social interaction, Tash highlighted the phone’s role in emotional healing. Access to apps for mental health, mindfulness, and educational content offers Sky tools to process her emotions and gain guidance as she navigates life’s challenges.

Removing the phone entirely, he argued, could limit her access to these resources and negatively affect her well-being.

Tash acknowledged that boundaries are important. While Sky is still young and her phone should not be a constant distraction, it can serve as a bridge to reduce isolation and promote support.

“With proper guidance, the phone helps her feel connected to a world that is still full of love and care,” he said, underscoring his belief that the device is an essential tool in helping Sky heal while staying connected to those who care for her.
