Akuku Danger explains why he underwent a vasectomy
By Valerian Khakayi, May 11, 2026Kenyan comedian and entertainer Mannerson Oduor Ochieng, widely known as Akuku Danger, has opened up about his decision to undergo a vasectomy, revealing that his painful childhood experience influenced the life-changing choice.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Chris the Bass, in an episode aired on Monday, May 11, 2026, Akuku said he decided not to have children because of the trauma he went through while growing up with sickle cell disease.
The comedian recalled spending most of his primary and high school years in and out of the hospital, something he says deeply affected both him and his parents.
“I actually went and did a vasectomy. I do not want to have kids because my childhood was very traumatic; I spent most of my time in the hospital rather than actually playing with my fellow children,” Akuku Danger explained.
“All through my primary and high school, I was in and out of the hospital, and I had very supportive parents. I always used to see how both my mother and father were deeply broken by this because they did not understand.”

Reasons for vasectomy
According to Akuku, the difficult experiences made him grow up believing he did not want children of his own.
“Growing up, my childhood was a bit sad and very traumatic. I grew up nikisema mimi sitaki (kuwa na watoto); wacha tu nikae hivi let me enjoy my life with my wife, and let’s have a good time,” he explained.
Akuku further went on to reveal that he eventually underwent a vasectomy after discussing the matter with his partner.
“Yes, I have a partner, and it is something that we have been talking about for a very long time. I just told her’ mimi sitaki’, and she was also on the same page,” Akuku revealed.

While acknowledging that there have been major technological advancements that can help people with sickle cell disease have healthy children, Akuku maintained that he personally does not want to become a parent.
“Whatever I passed through as a kid, I did not want to pass that, though I know there are some technological advancements in this field whereby I can still give birth without the child having sickle cell, but me as a person, I just do not want to have children,” he added.
Akuku had earlier opened up about his decision to have a childless marriage.
