2Mbili explains why he will not be running for political seat in 2027

Comedian and content creator 2Mbili has opened up about his decision not to contest a political seat in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Speaking during an interview on Thursday, February 19, 2026, he said that despite being qualified, he has chosen not to run. According to 2Mbili, holding political office is far more complicated and demanding than many realise.
He explained that being a Member of Parliament requires constant focus and energy, which can be draining.
“Mimi siwezi. Unajua mbona mimi siwezi run for MP? Like nimequalify lakini kusaidia binadamu ni ngumu lakini si ati naogopa,” he said.
He compared it to being a prefect in school, adding, “you are not perfect, it drains unafocus na watu wanapiga kelele classwork and etcs alafu unajisahau.”
Misconceptions about funds
2Mbili also addressed common misconceptions about MPs having immediate access to resources for development projects.
“Unajua watu wandhaningi ukiwa MP kuna pesa available ya maendeleo waadhani unafaa kutumia doo yako mimi ata sina shida ya pesa ya kucampain shida ni why am I campaining. I’m campaigning to help people,” he said.
He explained the difficulty of delivering services when funds are delayed or limited

“Hawa watu utawasaidia aje, utawajengea aje barabara na pesa haijatoka uko juu (national government). National government imekawia kutuma doo ama imetuma doo less unataka upee watoto bursary, kuna mashule zinafaa zijengwe dormitory apo mnablame MP,” he said.
He emphasised that his motivation has always been to genuinely help communities, not to gain political power or wealth.
2Mbili stated that running for office could shift his focus away from his creative work and the direct impact he can make.
“Kila MP aki campaign anatakanga afanye kazi lakini doo inatoka wapi,” he said, underlining the systemic limitations of political office.
While 2Mbili has chosen not to run, several other entertainers and social media personalities have already declared their intentions to contest political positions in the 2027 elections.
Among them are comedians Eric Omondi and Octopizzo, musician KRG The Don, and influencer Dem wa Facebook, highlighting a growing trend of celebrities leveraging their platforms for leadership and civic engagement.
