Police rescue KWS officer from gang while blindfolded in car boot

Police officers on patrol in Kinoo, Kiambu County, have rescued a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer from a gang of robbers.
The rescue occurred in the early hours of Monday, October 6, 2025, after police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area. Officers on patrol acted immediately and moved to check the car. When they approached it, the occupants attempted to escape.
Police pursued the suspects and managed to stop the vehicle after a brief chase. Two persons of interest were arrested at the scene. When officers searched the vehicle, they found a man tied up and blindfolded in the boot.
He was later identified as a KWS officer who was travelling to Nairobi when he was attacked.

The officer told police that the gang had taken money from his mobile wallet before tying him up. He also said the persons of interest had been robbing passengers along the route before they were intercepted. The police rescue stopped the gang before they could target more people that morning.
Stolen phones recovered
During the operation, police recovered several stolen mobile phones from the arrested people. The items were taken as evidence and are believed to have been stolen from passengers during earlier robberies.
According to police, investigations are ongoing to find out how the abduction took place and to identify other members of the gang. Others managed to flee during the chase, and officers have launched operations to track them down.

The National Police Service has praised the officers involved for their quick response and bravery. Their actions not only rescued the KWS officer but also stopped the persons of interest from continuing with their criminal activities.
Police have called on members of the public to remain alert and share information that could help prevent similar incidents. They urged anyone who notices suspicious activity to report immediately using the toll-free hotlines 999, 911, or 112.
The National Police Service has assured residents that patrols and investigations will continue until all those involved are caught. The rescued officer is safe and assisting police with more details as investigations proceed.
