Police from Malindi Police Station have arrested 20 persons of interest in a targeted operation aimed at dismantling criminal gangs in Kilifi County.

The operation, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), took place on August 11, 2025, in the Soweto and Kasufini areas.

Targeted gang operation

The crackdown followed a noticeable rise in crime and drug trafficking in the region, prompting the police to intensify intelligence-led efforts.

According to the National Police Service’s official X account on Tuesday, August 12, police said the operation was necessary due to the rise in criminal incidents and drug trafficking in the area.

During the operation, officers detained 20 persons of interest linked to criminal gangs involved in illegal activities disrupting the peace of the local communities.

“A total of 20 suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal activities,” the National Police Service said.

The arrested are currently in police custody, pending processing and court arraignment as investigations continue.
