Person of interest in murder of Briton Scott released

One person of interest in the murder of British national Campbell Scott Alistair, Alex Mutua Kithuka, will be arraigned in Makadara Court on Wednesday, March 25, 2025, to answer to charges of murder.
Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), through lawyer Joyce Olajo, told the court that Mutua is expected to answer murder charges under sections 203 and 204 of the Penal Code.
However, the DPP requested the court to release the second person of interest in the Briton murder, Albunus Mutinda Nzioki, with the condition that he would be reporting to the police station when needed.
“We request the court to release Albunus Mutinda with the condition that he will be reporting to the police station to assist with investigations,” DPP prosecutor Olajo told the court.
Prosecutor Olajo told the court that Mutinda’s assistance will be needed to enable the investigative officer to apprehend two other persons of interest in the murder, who are still at large.
On March 3, 2025, Chief Magistrate Onyina detained the two at the Capital Hill and Kilimani police stations for 21 days.
The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), through lawyer Olajo, had told the court that the two were likely to interfere with the ongoing investigations if they were to be released on bond.
Further, Olajo stated that the investigating officer Philip Kilonzo was still pursuing the other persons of interest believed to have been involved in the murder of Alistair.
Olajo said that the two were also a flight risk and could fail to appear in court if released on bond.
Notably, the court was told that the investigating officer was liaising with Interpol to trace the deceased person’s mobile phone and obtain details on the deceased credit and debit card, which were missing.
According to Sergeant Philip Kilonzo, attached to the Homicide Investigations Department, the deceased, who disappeared on February 16, 2025, was killed and the body dumped at Makongo Forest along Machakos-Wote Road on February 21, 2025.
Kilonzo also stated that the deceased body was tied hands and legs together and thrown in a thicket in a green nylon sack.
“The dead body was tied, hands and legs together, and put in a green nylon sack and thrown in a ditch about 500 metres from the Makongo forest viewpoint,” part of the application read.
Furthermore, the application stated that investigations revealed that the deceased was taken to Pipeline at Alex Mutua’s house, where he is believed to have been murdered, and the body was disposed of at Makongo.
Later, the two were accused of attempting to withdraw money from the deceased person’s account within Nairobi, Voi, and Mombasa.
