Obado loses his cool and angrily confronts a man in court

Drama has been witnessed at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court after former Migori governor Okoth Obado protested a random man who rose in court to object to the withdrawal of his graft charges.
Appearing before Milimani Anti-Corruption Principal Magistrate Charles Ondieki on Friday, September 5, 2025, the former county boss accused the man of tarnishing his name and falsely accusing him of wrongdoing.
“They are crucifying me for nothing; this fake guy cannot come here to start tarnishing my name, knowing very well they crucified me for something that I should not have been charged for,” Obado told the court angrily.
During that time, Obado told the court that he had never seen the man objecting to the withdrawal of his case in Migori, and he proceeded to ask him where he came from.
“It is a guy I have never seen in Migori. Where do you come from?” Obado asked the man.

This led to Magistrate Ondieki intervening and calming down the former governor. He also directed him to sit down and allow the man to finish up what he wanted to submit to the court.
“Mr Obado, have your seat, have your seat,” Magistrate Ondieki ordered.
The magistrate then asked the man to tell the court what his actual point was.
The man’s response
In his response, he said that as a citizen of the Republic, he wanted to file an application objecting to the former governor’s graft case withdrawal.
Magistrate Ondieki told him that everybody is at liberty to do whatever they wish, as long as it is within their rights and power.

He assured him that in the event his application lands before him, he will proceed with it as the law directs him.
Obado, his four children, and others are facing different charges in connection with misappropriating millions from Migori County between 2013 and 2017.
Meanwhile, the court was told that the former county boss and his co-accused reached out to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), seeking to resolve the matter through an alternative dispute resolution mechanism.
However, the DPP and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) seem not to agree even after conducting three meetings with the defence lawyers on settling the matter.
Lawyer Kioko Kilukumi, representing Obado, is accusing the EACC of intermeddling with the powers of the DPP to withdraw the graft case against his client.
According to Kilukumi, his client in a joint meeting with the ODPP and EACC surrendered assets worth over Ksh230 million and two high-end motor vehicles to the State, yet the EACC claims it was not a party to the meeting.
