The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has confirmed the recovery of 384 tariffs and 628 sticks of suspected marijuana in Pandipieri area, Migori County.
In the multi-agency operation involving NACADA, the Anti-Narcotic Unit (ANU), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other law enforcement agencies, 21.5 litres of chang’aa and two phones were also recovered.
The security agencies acting on additional intelligence also raided a house within the area, where suspected drug trafficking activities are believed to have been taking place.
During the raid, two suspects were arrested, a search conducted led to the recovery of 40 tariffs, 230 sticks of suspected bhang, uncustomed cigarette packets, 1.5 litres of chang’aa, an improvised smoking device, and dry plant material suspected to be marijuana.
Following the successful operation, NACADA CEO Anthony Omerikwa reaffirmed his commitment to fighting drug traffickers.
He also commended the efforts of all agencies involved in the operation highlighting their commitment to safeguard communities from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
“This successful operation highlights the strength of our multi-agency approach in combating the proliferation of illicit drugs and alcohol. We are determined to safeguard communities from the adverse effects of substance abuse,” Omerikwa said.
“This operation is a testament to our resolve to address this issue head-on. We will not relent in our efforts to protect our people and uphold the law.”
He further called on members of the public to actively play their role to help combat the issue of drug abuse and report any suspicious activity to relevant authorities.
“We urge community members to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities. Together, we can create a safer, healthier environment for all,” he added.
