Lamu: Person of interest arrested as police intensify crackdown on armed gangs

Police in Lamu Central Sub-County have intensified their crackdown on armed gangs following the arrest of a 21-year-old person of interest found hiding in a house within the Kanu Milimani area.

The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement shared via social media on Sunday, November 23, 2025, stated that officers from Lamu Police Station conducted the late-night operation on Saturday after intelligence reports linked the person of interest to a series of robberies with violence that have unsettled residents in recent weeks.

“Police in Lamu Central Sub-County have intensified operations against armed gangs who have been terrorising residents in the Kanu Milimani area. During an operation on the night of 22 November 2025, officers from Lamu Police Station raided a house believed to be a gang hideout and arrested a 21-year-old man who was wanted for robbery with violence,” NPS stated.

Weapons recovered

During the raid, police recovered several weapons believed to have been used in criminal activities, including a panga, a spear, and a wooden club. The items were secured as crucial evidence as investigations advance.

The 21-year-old was immediately taken into custody at Lamu Police Station, where he is being processed ahead of arraignment in court to face robbery with violence charges.

“A panga, a spear, and a wooden club were recovered during the raid and secured as evidence. The suspect was taken to Lamu Police Station and is being held in custody, pending processing and arraignment in court,” the statement read.

The National Police Service praised the officers involved in the successful operation, reiterating its commitment to restoring safety in the region.

“The National Police Service has commended the officers involved and remains committed to safeguarding communities and eliminating the threats posed by armed gangs,” the NPS stated.
