Kisii: 2 suspected traffickers nabbed with 30kg of bhang

The National Police Service has confirmed the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers in Kitutu Central Sub-County in Kisii County on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

In a statement shared via its X page, the NPS said the pair was found to be in possession of 30 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa after being intercepted during a mobile patrol along the busy Kisii-Migori highway.

“During a mobile patrol along the Kisii-Migori Road, police officers from Nyanchwa Police Station in Kitutu Central Sub-County intercepted 30 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa today,” the NPS stated.

According to the law enforcers, the two will be arraigned in court on Monday, August 4, 2025.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure and are currently in custody, awaiting arraignment on Monday. This operation highlights the commitment of the National Police Service to keeping communities safe and free from drugs.”

Drug crackdown

The Kisii bust comes moments after the police confirmed arresting a suspected drug peddler on Friday, August 1, 2025.

The incident occurred during an intelligence-led operation by police officers from Kirwara Police Station in Gatanga Sub-County, Murang’a County.

In a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Saturday, the officers reported recovering 63 rolls of bhang hidden in the suspect’s jacket.

“Police officers from Kirwara Police Station in Gatanga Sub-County, Murang’a County, conducted an intelligence-led operation on August 1, 2025, at Kirwara Shopping Centre, targeting narcotics peddlers.”

“During the operation, officers arrested one, a known drug peddler in the area. A swift search at the scene led to the recovery of 63 rolls of bhang concealed in the suspect’s jacket.”

The person was placed in custody pending processing and court arraignment.

The seizure predated a similar crackdown conducted on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in Likoni, Mombasa County, where police, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, raided a house in the Soweto area, JCC zone.

During the operation, officers recovered a range of items suspected to have been stolen in previous incidents. The recovered items included two television sets, a coffee maker, a laptop, gas cylinders, a jungle bag, and multiple identification cards.

Additionally, 38 rolls of a substance suspected to be cannabis (bhang) were seized at the scene. Two suspects were arrested in connection with the raid and are currently in custody, pending arraignment in court.

The National Police Service (NPS) commended members of the public for their vigilance and reiterated their commitment to dismantling criminal networks through continued collaboration and timely information-sharing.
