DCI nabs TikToker in Mombasa over seditious video

Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended a man behind a viral TikTok video laced with seditious remarks and incitement in Mombasa.
According to a report by DCI on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the TikTok content creator identified as Shedrack Omondi Okindo is popularly known on the platform as Hon. Mosquito.
The DCI has revealed the events that led to his apprehension, stating that the person of interest was tracked down and apprehended by detectives in the Miritini area following swift forensic investigations.
Likewise, according to the DCI, the persons of interest followed growing public alarm over the inflammatory content, which threatened public order and sparked nationwide concern.
On the other hand, the detectives have also revealed that he was arrested just after his seditious video went viral on social media on Friday, August 1, 2025.
“Detectives have arrested Shedrack Omondi Okindo, alias Hon. Mosquito, in connection with a seditious video that was widely circulated on TikTok on August 1, 2025,” DCI said.

Events that led to his arrest
Similarly, DCI highlighted that his content also contained threats of violence, which swiftly triggered public concerns; thus, the swift action by the security agencies.
“The inflammatory clip, which contained threats of violence and incitement against public order, quickly went viral, triggering public concern and swift action from security agencies,” DCI wrote.
Detectives have further revealed that he was in a hideout in Miritini, Mombasa County, at the time of his apprehension.
“Following forensic leads, detectives trailed Okindo to his hideout in the Miritini area of Mombasa County, where he was swiftly apprehended,” DCI said.
Similarly, the detectives have also unfolded the items confiscated at the time of Okindo’s apprehension. The detectives highlighted that Okindo had a notebook with writings linked to resistance tactics, also mobile phones and assorted documents were confiscated.
A subsequent search of his residence revealed the following: two pairs of tactical combat fatigues, a notebook with the writings, “We are going to apply guerrilla resistance tactics – Justice to all freedom heroes”, three mobile phones, assorted documents linked to the Justice Direction Party, among other items, “DCI revealed.
