8 students arraigned in court after Litein Boys School night rampage

Kericho Principal Magistrate Fredrick Nyakundi has granted the police permission to hold 8 students from Litein Boys High School for seven more days in police custody as investigations into the arson incident on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Litein High School continue.

The respondents were arrested on Sunday night, September 21, 2025, for the Offence of arson contrary to Section 332(a) of the Penal Code, burglary contrary to Section 304(2) of the Penal Code, and malicious damage to property contrary to Section 339(1) of the Penal Code.

‎The students who were represented in court by pro bono lawyers led by Naima Chelangat were found in possession of the property that was reported missing from staff quarters at Litein High School.

The court heard from preliminary investigations that the students are believed to have information that can lead to the apprehension of the other planners of the destruction at the school.

It was also heard that some items are still missing in the school, including laptops and other property belonging to the school and the teachers.

‎”It is hereby ordered that the respondents be held at Litein Police Station for 7 days to enable the investigating officer to conduct and complete investigations on the alleged Offence of arson, burglary and Malicious damage to Property,” Principal Magistrate Fredrick Nyakundi stated.

He ordered that the orders be served upon the OCS Litein Police Station.

Litein Boys High School went on a rampage at 10 pm Sunday night, destroying property of unknown value.
