6 arrested, large cannabis haul seized in Nairobi

Detectives have apprehended six individuals in connection with the trafficking of bhang following two separate operations in Nairobi.
In the first operation, officers raided a rented house in Maji Mazuri, Mwiki, after receiving intelligence.
In a statement shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday, March 29, 2025, the operation led to the arrest of a key person of interest, a 38-year-old woman, believed to be the ringleader of the drug trafficking network.
“A team of detectives drawn from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Operations Action Team have arrested three notorious traffickers and seized a substantial cache of cannabis sativa. Acting on intelligence, the team descended on a rented house in Maji Mazuri, Mwiki, where they apprehended the primary suspect, 38-year-old Serah Wambui Nyaguthi,” the statement read in part.
The authorities reported that during a thorough search of the premises, they uncovered 67 bales and five sacks of cannabis sativa, all meticulously concealed within the house.
Further interrogation of the prime suspect provided crucial leads, resulting in the arrest of two more individuals, aged 43 and 32. The trio was taken to Muthaiga Police Station, while the confiscated drugs were transported to the DCI headquarters for safe custody and further analysis.
“A search of the premises led to the discovery of 67 bales and five sacks of cannabis sativa meticulously concealed within the house. Further interrogation of Nyaguthi yielded crucial information, leading to the arrest of two additional suspects, 43-year-old Miriam Omwoso Aywa and 32-year-old Moses Karanja.
“The trio was escorted to Muthaiga Police Station, while the confiscated drugs were taken to DCI headquarters for safe custody as exhibits,” the DCI revealed.

In a separate operation conducted in Embakasi, police officers detained three additional individuals found in possession of 181 rolls of bhang and 10 kilograms of unprocessed cannabis sativa. The operation was part of heightened efforts to curb drug trafficking and distribution within the city.
The persons of interest in the Embakasi operation are currently held at Embakasi Police Station, where they are undergoing processing ahead of court appearance.
“In a separate operation, police officers in Embakasi apprehended three suspects, Sam Muthoka Musembi, Peter David Mumo, and Dorris Rashma Mutil, in possession of 181 rolls of bhang and 10 kilograms of unprocessed bhang. The suspects are currently being held at Embakasi Police Station, where they are undergoing processing before their upcoming court appearance,” the statement read further.
