Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended three suspects linked to drugging and robbing revellers of their property.
In a statement shared on the night of Friday, October 18, 2024, DCI operatives from its headquarters in Kiambu Road indicated that they received a tip-off from one of the victims and immediately acted.
According to the victim’s report, it claimed that the trio were stupefying revellers’ drinks, robbing them of their property and later withdrawing money from the mobile money service.
Their well-choreographed operation saw the three suspects captured.
“Three suspects involved in stupefying revellers have been apprehended by detectives from DCI Headquarters.
“The arrests were made following a tip-off received through the Fichua Kwa DCI hotline, where a victim reported being drugged, robbed, and having money withdrawn from his M-Pesa account,” DCI’s statement read in part.
DCI detectives indicated that the three are currently in custody awaiting arraignment.
“The swift investigation led to the capture of Patrick Njuguna Karogi, James Kiratu, and Susan Njoki Waithira. They are currently in lawful custody, awaiting arraignment,” the statement added.
Past incidences
The incidences of revellers complaining of being robbed had been on the rise. In 2023, DCI recorded several incidents especially relating to female perpetrators hence coining the names ‘mchele gang’ and ‘pishori babes.’
In March 2024, two women were arrested shortly after being accused of stupefying and stealing from a reveller at a club in Thika Town, Kiambu County.
The duo was arrested as they escaped from a car where a man was lying helpless after the stupefying incident, police said.
They were spotted by the club supervisor who was concerned after seeing them forcefully dragging a seemingly too-drunk frequent customer to his Toyota Crown, before putting him in the driver’s seat.
The supervisor then informed the police officer who then waylaid the suspects.
