2 persons of interest arrested in drug bust along Maai Mahiu-Nairobi Road

Police have seized a massive haul of cannabis weighing approximately 900 kilograms in Limuru, following an intelligence-led operation that also led to the arrest of two persons of interest.
In a statement shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the operation was carried out by a multi-agency team involving officers from the Transnational Organised Crime and Anti-Narcotics units, supported by personnel from the Mutarakwa Police Post within Limuru sub-county.
“In an intelligence-led operation, a multi-agency team comprising Transnational Organised Crime and Anti-Narcotics units’ detectives augmented by officers drawn from Mutarakwa police post within Limuru subcounty, has arrested two suspects and recovered nine ninety-kilogram sacks containing cannabis sativa,” the statement read in part.
The suspects were intercepted along the busy Maai Mahiu–Nairobi Road while driving a white Toyota Noah, registration number KCX 728Q.
“During the operation that was conducted along the Maai Mahiu- Nairobi road within the Limuru area, the law enforcement officers intercepted a white Toyota Noah, Reg No. KCX 728Q, which was being driven by 37 year 37-year-old man in the company of his brother-in-crime and an agemate,” the authorities said.

The car, which appeared to be in normal transit, was found to be loaded with nine sacks of cannabis sativa. The authorities said each sack weighed about 90 kilograms and had been tightly packed and covered with black polythene to conceal the contents.
The vehicle was immediately impounded and driven to the Mutarakwa Police Post. The two persons of interest were also taken into custody and later transferred to the DCI headquarters in Nairobi for detailed interrogation and arraignment.
“Upon search, the vehicle was found to have been stashed with the sacks that were neatly covered with a black polythene paper. The vehicle and the exhibits were escorted to Mutarakwa police post, where the two were booked in and later taken to DCI headquarters for further processing and arraignment,” the statement read further.
