2 arrested as police recover 800 rolls of bhang

Police in the Kimbo area have arrested two persons of interest whom they says were in possession of 800 rolls of bhang.
In a statement on Friday, March 21, 2025, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the persons of interest, Tyson Mwai (30) and Samson Gathuki (21), were also nabbed with weighing machines.
“In a crackdown against narcotics trafficking, a multi-agency team, including officers from Mugutha Police Station and the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), has apprehended two drug traffickers and confiscated 800 rolls of bhang,” DCI stated.
“The suspects, Tyson Mwai, 30, and Samson Gathuki, 21, were caught with their hands in the cookie jar during a targeted raid in Kimbo area. Authorities not only seized the rolls but also discovered a range of bhang packaged in sachets: 13 polythene sachets of 35 grams each, five sachets weighing 130 grams, 44 sachets of 16 grams, and two digital weighing machines, signalling a well-organized trafficking operation.”
The duo is currently in police custody undergoing processing pending arraignment.
In a different case in Moyale, police say they have recovered 100kgs of bhang which were being transported on a motorbike whose rider abandoned after being flagged by the police.
“In Moyale, vigilant officers on patrol intercepted a motorcycle with registration number KMGM 369D, laden with two suspicious sacks. The rider abandoned the motorcycle and fled. Upon inspecting the luggage, officers found twenty bales of bhang inside the sacks, totalling approximately 100kgs,” DCI stated.
“The recovered narcotics and motorcycle are securely detained as exhibits. Meanwhile, efforts to apprehend the trafficker who managed to evade capture are ongoing.”
