The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhiambo has revealed that yet another abduction has happened in the country.

Odhiambo in a post made via her official X account on Monday, July 1, 2024, said that a youth had been abducted in the wee hours.

Githurai abduction

According to Odhiambo, Paul Mwangi Wambui aka Jiji was abducted on Monday morning at 5 am at Githurai, Nairobi.

The LSK president has called for the immediate release of Paul and demanded an end to the abductions that have been happening in the country.

“Paul Mwangi Wambui aka Jiji was abducted this morning at 5am at Githurai. This must come to an end! Release Paul immediately!” the LSK president said.

Odhiambo’s statement comes just hours after President William Ruto maintained that abductions and extra-judicial killings would never happen under his watch.

The head of state during a media roundtable at State House, Nairobi on Sunday, June 30, 2024, was asked about the abductions.

Ruto on abductions

In his response, President Ruto noted that the police have not been conducting abductions but arrests, stating that all those who have been reported missing have been traced and found at various police stations.

Ruto said that he committed to making sure that the police are independent

“Let me tell you, I am the President and I speak for the government of Kenya. I made three commitments when I came to the office. That I will make sure that the police are independent, and I did that on my first day in office. Number two, I will make sure there will be no extrajudicial killings in Kenya, and I have kept my promise. Number three, I have told you that if there is any arrest by the police, that doesn’t amount to an abduction,” Ruto said.

Ruto was responding to a concern raised by the journalists at the roundtable about the abduction of former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter.

Alfred Keter abduction

Keter was on Sunday, June 30, 2024, forcibly abducted by heavily armed men in plainclothes outside Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kileleshwa.

The incident occurred as Keter was leaving the church, driving his black Landcruiser V8.

After an online uproar, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) later clarified that Keter was arrested by the National Police Service (NPS) for conspiracy to traffic firearms and incitement to violence.

“Contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media on alleged abduction of Hon Alfred Keter by unknown men, this is to confirm that Hon Keter was arrested earlier today by NPS Officers for Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms and Incitement to Violence,” DCI said in a statement.

Keter was later found at Kamukunji Police Station where the LSK president stormed while in the company of Embakasi MP Babu Owino and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, and demanded his release.

Several antigovernment and anti-Finance Bill, 2024 protesters have been abducted since the onset of the protests, with some still missing up to now.
