Former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has vowed to continue speaking truth to power despite being abducted in broad daylight on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Speaking outside Kamukunji Police Station, Keter made it clear that he would not be silenced despite the dramatic Sunday arrest ordeal.

Keter insisted that he would still come out strong and call out the government over punitive tax measures and policies that do not favour the citizens.

“You cannot force us to accept punitive measures when Kenyans are living in abject poverty. You cannot intimidate us into silence. I want to say that I am coming out strong,” Keter stated.

He however vowed to honour the summons scheduled for Monday, July 1, 2024.

“We will follow whatever measures they want and we are coming back tomorrow ( Monday, July 1, 2024),” Keter told the press outside the police station.

The abduction ordeal

Keter described the abduction ordeal as terrifying. The vocal former Nandi Hills MP noted that the read was blocked outside Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kileleshwa, Nairobi before four men bundled him into an unmarked vehicle with sirens.

Other motorists and passersby looked in awe as the security officers forcefully bundled him into a waiting car.

“We had a very bad experience this morning after Church. People came from nowhere blocked the whole road and started abducting me in the presence of my children. It was a very terrifying experience,” Keter stated.

Keter’s wife noted that he was still terrified after the abduction ordeal. She noted that even their kids were still in shock.

LSK President tracking him

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo helped Keter regain his freedom after the abduction incident. Odhiambo pointed out that she received a distress call and responded swiftly.

Keter’s advocates first went to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road but they were denied entry.

According to Odhiambo, the advocates then rushed to Muthaiga where they confirmed that he had not be detained there.

However, later they received information that he was at Kamkunji Police Station where they rushed to rescue him.

“Today we got a distress call that Alfred Keter had been abducted and you all saw what happened. So his advocate rushed to DCI headquarters where they believed he was being held. They were not allowed inside and went to Muthaiga. I was also alerted and sent advocates to Muthaiga where we confirmed he was not being held. Later we discovered that he was being held here at Kamukunji.

“We have seen the questions and he is supposed to come here on Monday and answer.
