Winnie Odinga, the daughter of former Prime Minister and veteran opposition politician Raila Odinga, has opened up on her rollercoaster life as a child of a prominent politician.

In a candid interview with a local radio station on Thursday, May 8, 2025, the soft-spoken lady shared the intrigues of being a descendant of a renowned family, stating it has been nothing short of tiresome and exhausting.

“I have seen it all with protests, police shooting at the house, sleeping on the floor. I have been to morgues after protests, looking at bodies, and in hospitals. There is nothing I have not seen,” she stated.

The youngest of Odinga’s children, who was a conspicuous figure in her father’s fifth stab to the presidency in the 2022 election, shrugged off assertions that she should take up the baton from her father’s legacy in the political arena.

According to Winnie, who marked her official debut in politcs in 2022 following her election to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), she has offered it all by dedicating her life to serving her dad and her family.

“I hear a lot of people talking about the political moves. They ask me, ‘Don’t you wish to run for office?’ But it’s exhausting. You have been fighting for something for your whole life, wishing to change something, but it’s not changing. It’s exhausting: you do it! Me, I am out,” she retorted.

The daughter born in 1990, further revealed her desire to chart a path she feels inclined to.

“I certainly don’t feel his legacy should just end as if nothing ever happened. But I’m from a generation that has its own thoughts and ambitions. I have played my part and dedicated my life to him. I am always with him and take care of him and my mother,” she said in her parting shot.

Winnie is one of the four children born to Raila and Ida Odinga, alongside the late Castrol Fidel Odinga, Rosemary, and Raila Junior
