Viral Nairobi biker known as Brayo has revealed why he neither removes his helmet in public nor reveals his identity to the public.

Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Friday, July 18, 2025, Brayo said that he consciously chooses to keep his face hidden behind a helmet, making him more relatable and preserving a sense of neutrality.

He revealed that only his family, friends, and colleagues know his true identity.

“Family, friends and my colleagues at work are the only people who know my real identity,” he said.

Brayo emphasised that his helmet is not just gear, it is part of his identity and approach. In his words, since so few know his face, the helmet allows him to stay grounded, avoid labels and judgments, and remain focused on spreading positivity and helping others, which has made him a beloved figure among Nairobi’s road users.

Sikuficha sura nikivaa helmet am more relatable; hii helmet haina tribe sa mtu hawezi kusema huyu ni wa hii area, and everybody loves this biker Nairobi,” he said.

He added that after five years of riding around the city commuting regularly from Rongai to Westlands due to traffic, keeping the helmet on became both a practical and symbolic decision. He described it as convenient and protective.

He explained that because he stays in Rongai and commutes to Westlands, he needs to ride extensively.

“I have been a biker for five years, traffic prompted me to start am a commuter. I stay in Rongai, so I am forced to commute from Rongai to Westlands so it is convenient for me to use the bike,” he added.

Reckless riding

On reckless riding by some boda boda riders, Brayo says that they are into commercial biking and that some motorbikes might be on loan, which forces them to take more trips daily so they can repay them and earn back some income.

“They are commercial bikers. Hiyo ni kazi, pikipiki maybe iko kwa loan and he needs to make more trips ndio alipe maybe that is way anaride hivyo vile anaride so he has to pay for the loan so that he can get some money back,” he explained.
