To stay relevant, Kenya’s familiar faces, including politicians, musicians, actors and actresses, social media influencers and brand executives have stirred controversies or engaged in publicity stunts.
Here are some public figures who have made it to the social trends this week because of their antics.
Bahati and Diana Marua
The musical couple Bahati and Diana Marua are not new to controversies. On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, the former gospel singer left tongues wagging after posting a video of himself wearing his wife’s night dress.
The video, which has so far gone viral, shows Bahati sleeping on Diana’s chest as his wife urged him to remove her clothes while caressing his head.
“Babe just take off my clothes aki,” Diana told him.
While replying to the content creator, Bahati said, “Aki babe mimi sitaki nimechoka. Kwani kuvaa dress yako ni shida na wewe hushinda kuvaa t-shirts zangu. Mimi nikivaa dress yako siku moja ni shida,” he complained.
King Kaka and Nana
Kenya’s rapper King Kaka was a topic of discussion on social after it was rumoured that his content creator cum influencer wife Nana left him.
It was rumoured that the mother of two left the country together with her kids. However, the talented rapper came out to refute the separation claims.
“Listen guys I don’t clout chase. I have never clout chased especially when it comes to family neither has Nana, that’s not my style. I was not going to address this but it’s touching on family,“ he said.
Explaining further, the Kaka Empire CEO stated that his kids are in school contrary to the rumors being spread.
“I know people get excited when it comes to content creation. Nana is in the country and the kids are in school,” he explained.
Kimani Mbugua
Former media personality Kimani Mbugua has yet again found himself on the top search after his father revealed during an interview with a local YouTuber that his drink was spiked at a party which caused his mental disorder. This comes days after his latest social media outbursts.
The talented journalist went live on his social media page threatening anyone who owed him money to pay or else he would take action.
Kuria Kimani
Molo Member of Parliament Kuria Kimani sparked mixed reactions following his remarks during an interview on the 2024 Finance Bill.
According to Kuria, VAT is being added on bread because bread causes diabetes.
“We had a very long conversation with the National Treasury on this VAT. The initial thinking is that there is concern about diabetes but the arguments we receive from Kenyans is that bread is not a luxury good,“ he said.
This is not the first time the legislature has been a topic of discussion on social media.

The funny legislator has been rocking baby locks ever since he came to office but recently posted a video of his relaxed hair on Instagram. Some of his followers were pleased with the new look while others made fun of him.
