Tanzanian singer Juma Jux pays emotional tribute to Raila Odinga

Tanzanian singer Juma Jux has expressed deep sorrow following the death of Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In an emotional message on Instagram on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, the award-winning artist described Raila as a true African hero whose leadership and courage inspired millions across the continent.

“Heartbroken to hear of the passing of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, a true African hero and symbol of leadership, courage, and unity,” Jux said.

He met Raila weeks before his death

The Tanzanian musician revealed that he had recently met Raila and his family during a visit to Nairobi. He said the encounter left a lasting impression on him because of the humility and kindness Raila displayed despite his stature.

“I had the honour of meeting him and his beautiful family just a few weeks ago in Nairobi, and I witnessed humility wrapped in greatness,” he said.

Jux went on to describe Raila as a rare leader whose personality reflected both power and compassion.

He extended his condolences to Raila’s family and the people of Kenya, acknowledging the deep pain of losing a man who played such an important role in shaping African politics.

“My heartfelt condolences go to Hon. William Ruto, the President of Kenya, to Raila Odinga’s wife, children and family and to the lovely people of Kenya,” Jux wrote.

Africa has lost one of its finest

In his message, the singer praised Raila for dedicating his life to the pursuit of democracy, unity, and justice. He said Raila’s passing is not only a loss to Kenya but to the entire African continent.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace. Africa has indeed lost one of its finest,” he said.

Raila Odinga, who served as Kenya’s Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013, was widely respected across Africa for his role in the fight for democracy and social justice.

His influence went beyond politics, as he inspired generations of leaders and citizens who believed in a free and united Africa.

Jux’s message reflects the regional grief felt by many who admired Raila’s courage and lifelong service to the continent.
