Shalkido’s father unimpressed by Bahati’s reaction to his son’s death

Shalkido’s father has expressed disappointment over musician Bahati’s reaction to his son’s death, saying his statement and social media post added no value to their pain.
Speaking emotionally, in a YouTube video on Wednesday, October 9, 2025, he said, “Sasa hiyo haisaidii mahali. Hata sijui nitasema nini,” after Bahati shared screenshots of private chats with the late Gengetone star.

Bahati had taken to social media to mourn Shalkido, who died in a road accident, but his approach did not sit well with many, including the grieving family. The screenshots he shared showed that Shalkido had reached out to him, asking for a collaboration, but there was no visible response from Bahati.
His post was therefore met with mixed reactions, with many accusing him of seeking attention rather than genuinely paying tribute.

In his post, Bahati claimed that his management had spoken to Shalkido and that they were planning to work on a song together. “#RIPSHALKIDO. You had Just Talked to My Management on our Collabo na Mkapanga Tuingie Studio this Coming Week. Rest Well, Young King Tutaonana Baadae,” Bahati wrote. However, his explanation did little to calm criticism, as many online users felt the gesture was inappropriate given the timing.
Father recalls painful moments
The heartbroken father revealed that the news of his son’s death deeply affected him.
“Hiyo mambo ya Shalkido imenigonga sana. Sina mtoto mwingine, just imagine. Kwa sasa, shosho hana hali mbaya. Hata ni yeye aliniamsha,” he said. He added that the family were still uncertain about burial plans, as they continued to process the shocking loss.
The father also revealed that he had not been in contact with Shalkido’s mother for years. “Shalkido alizaliwa, niliwachiwa huko pale Ruiru. Hapo ndio tunafanyia maombolezi, sijui mahali tutamzika,” he said.
Shalkido, who rose to fame as part of the Gengetone group Sailors Gang, died following a grisly hit-and-run accident on Sunday. He was rushed to Kenyatta University Hospital, where doctors declared him brain dead before he later succumbed to his injuries.
Reports online indicate that the singer suffered severe head injuries, internal bleeding, and multiple fractures.
