Bien Baraza of boy band Sauti Sol has broken his silence after comedian Eric Omondi called out Kenyan artistes for ‘sleeping on their job’ after bongo artiste Diamond Platnumz performed at Raila Odinga’s final rally.

In his statement, the self-proclaimed president of comedy Africa reprimanded Kenya artistes stating that it was their fault Diamond graced the eventful day at their cost.

He opined that Kenya needs showbiz, calling them out for continually being what he termed ad boring, predictable and complacent.

“It says a lot that at this very definitive and historic moment in our nation none of our local musicians was found Worthy!!! I don’t blame anyone but the musicians!!! Unless our Musicians rise to the occasion and take their place, this will only get worse!!! ” he said.

He added: “Listen to me, I have said this and I will say it again. Put in the work!!! We need SHOWBIZ!!! Not these BORING, PREDICTABLE and COMPLACENT things you keep bombarding us with!!! WAKE UP!!!! WAKE UP!!!”

In a subsequent rejoinder shared on the comic’s comment section, the ‘mbwe mbwe’ hitmaker affirmed that Kenyan artistes were not interested in performing at political events.

“But we don’t want to be in political forums such as these,” Bien wrote.

The choice of Diamond performing at Raila’s final campaign elicited reactions from a section of social media users who defended that the former prime minister should have selected a Kenyan artiste.

In some instances, some suggested the names of the local entertainers that should have graced the much-anticipated rally ahead of the August 9 polls.
