Pitson explains how fame almost ruined his marriage
Veteran gospel musician and preacher Peterson Githinji, widely known as Pitson, has opened up about the darker side of fame, revealing how it nearly destroyed his marriage.
In a candid interview with media personality Alex Mwakideu on his latest YouTube interview aired on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Pitson shared that the pressures of constant public attention and money took a toll on his personal life.
He narrated how fame and money made people around him start to adore him, stating that while the attention can be positive, it requires wisdom to handle it.

The Lingala ya Yesu hitmaker said that he gained fame and money after he got married.
“For me fame money ilifunguka wakati nilioa,” he said.
“It is dangerous to be celebrated everywhere. Once fame imeanza kuingia na pesa, the people around you start to adore you, and you are in your 20s, pesa unalipwa poa hujazoea, it is a beautiful thing, but it needs wisdom kuibalance kujua it is the gift,” Pitson said.
When he started earning a lot of money from his music career, Pitson says he started mistreating his wife, adding that he let power and fame consume him, forgetting he is a husband and a father.
Additionally, he noted that the change in his behaviour created conflict between him and his wife, leading to constant fights and disagreements. However, he says with wisdom he learned to change his life for the better.
“Tulikuwa tunapika show ya 15 minutes doh zinaanza kuingia like Ksh 300k, Ksh 400k, within 15minutes. So first of all, this is not hard-earned money; number two, you are celebrated everywhere. Number three, you have a sense of power, sikuwa na hiyo wisdom ya kujua ukiingia kwa nyumba, you are now a husband and a father, you are not a celebrated gospel artiste,” he disclosed.
“So tulikosana sana hiyo time, but with wisdom, you learn to change your life.”

Nearly divorce
Pitson further revealed that during one of their disagreements, his wife packed her bags and left their matrimonial home, only returning after the intervention of his father
“The worst that happened is my wife leaving home, and I had to get my father tukaenda kumchukua, which is a decision pia sikuwa bado kuenda, unajua bado huja grow ni watu tu ndio wanakuambia twende kumchukua, so tukaenda,” he disclosed.
When asked what made her walk out of their marital home, the veteran musician said that there was an array of things that influenced her decision.
“It is an array of things, it is many, ilikuwa mingi there was nothing I was doing right, so akatoka, but after nimeanza kuingia church nimeanza kuwa mchungashi she never left,” he said.
