Okello Max reveals the real story behind Healing album

Multitalented musician Julius Mcrymboh Okello, also known as Okello Max, has shared how his deeply personal journey and the urgent issues facing the nation inspired his new album, dubbed Healing.

Speaking during a candid conversation with a local media station on Friday night, July 11, 2025, Max explained that the colour green, a dominant visual motif in the project, symbolises renewal and rejuvenation, adding that it reflects his desire to heal not just himself but entire communities.

The singer, in addition, described undergoing a profound personal transformation that led him to confront his tendency to be a people pleaser, a discovery that informed much of the album’s emotional core.

“We are healing a lot of life, green is one of the colours that speaks healing. The project itself has a lot of topics that I have touched on first. I’m healing from a lot of things, first from being the normal Okello Max that I’m used to, to a better version of myself,” Okello Max said.

“Because I went through a self-journey to just scrutinise myself, and I found out I am a yes man; I am a people pleaser.”

Beyond personal healing

The Nakufa hitmaker further disclosed that the album also addresses pressing societal wounds, especially gender-based violence and femicide. He believes healing must go beyond the self and into collective recovery.

“Second, the things that we are going through as a nation, specifically, I have shed more light on the gender-based violence, the femicide issues. I need us to heal from a lot of things because many people are trying to run away from those things,”he added.
