Ngaruiya Junior reveals why Kenyans were kept in the dark about Betty Bayo’s ailment

Kikuyu Benga musician Ngaruiya Junior has revealed that the late musician Betty Bayo did not want her ailment to be revealed in public.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Ngaruiya said the family and close friends respected her wishes.

Respecting Betty Bayo’s privacy
Ngaruiya stated, “Those who did not know about the ailment of Betty Bayo, let me take this chance and say sorry.
“But there was a valid reason why the story of the ailment was not announced.
“The owner, Betty Bayo, had stated that she didn’t want her stories to be aired in public, and we decided to respect her views.”
He explained that when her condition worsened last month, Betty was taken to a hospital along Kiambu Road.
She was bedridden for a week, with her closest friend Shiru Wa GP attending to her until she recovered and was discharged.

Battle with leukaemia
Also, Ngaruiya described the sudden deterioration in her health, which surprised everyone.
“Betty phone called me and informed me that she was experiencing a severe headache, and when I transmitted the same to Shiru Wa GP, we talked about the matter, and tomorrow morning is when she was taken to AAR Hospital.
“Betty was also put on the ICU as we continued to look for blood, even from outside,” NGaruyia said.
He added that after her condition improved slightly, she was transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital.

Plans were underway to move her abroad, possibly to India, for further treatment.
Tragically, the family discovered that Betty had leukaemia, which caused a shortage of blood for treatment. She was scheduled for a bone marrow procedure, but passed away before it could take place.
Ngaruiya said the family and friends are still mourning the loss of the popular musician, whose talent had touched many lives.
He urged fans to remember Betty for her music and spirit, rather than the tragic circumstances of her final days.
The revelation sheds light on the careful decisions her family made to protect her privacy during her illness, explaining why the public only learned about her health struggles after her passing.
