Mwalimu Rachel says women often enable abusive men who fail to provide

Mwalimu Rachel has warned women about the dangers of enabling abusive men who fail to provide for their families. She says many women stay in harmful relationships, allowing men to control and hurt them.
Speaking about the issue on Monday, November 17, 2025, Mwalimu Rachel said, “Si mko na guts huku nje? Unapiga aje mtoto wa Sonko? Yaani, ladies, we REALLY enable lazy ass turned abusive men! Let’s open our eyes, please! First, they fail to provide, then to feel in control, they hit you, then they RESENT YOU for sticking around, even giving them money and HIT YOU some more! YOU OWE THEM NOTHING! LEAVE NOW!”

Her statement comes after an incident involving Mike Sonko’s family. Sonko was praised for his calm response after his daughter, Salma, called home in distress, claiming she had been assaulted by her husband. The situation gained public attention when a video was shared on Sonko’s social media pages showing the events leading up to the call.
The incident with Sonko’s daughter
According to a video that is now trending, the altercation began when Salma asked her husband what they would have for breakfast. The domestic discussion quickly escalated, culminating in her being slapped. Frightened, she called her parents for help.
Sonko, visibly shaken by the news, said he acted immediately because no parent can remain still when their child’s well-being is under threat. His measured response was widely praised as he intervened to ensure his daughter’s safety.

Mwalimu Rachel’s comments show a broader issue of domestic abuse and the ways some women enable harmful behaviour, often out of fear, love, or financial dependence. She told women to recognise when a relationship is abusive and take steps to protect themselves, including leaving the situation when necessary.
Domestic abuse remains a serious concern, and cases like that of Salma demonstrate how quickly violence can occur in a household. Mwalimu Rachel’s advice shows us the importance of acknowledging the signs of abuse early and not waiting until harm escalates.
Her message resonates with many women facing similar situations, reminding them that no one owes an abusive partner their time, money, or presence and is encouraging women to prioritise their safety and well-being over loyalty to partners who cause harm.
