Mejja opens up about what led to the Kansoul’s split
By Valerian Khakayi, August 10, 2025Legendary musician Major Nameye Khadija, widely known as Mejja, has opened up about the split of their famous music group dubbed the Kansoul.
The three-member group consisting of Mejja, Madtraxx, and Kid Kora officially disbanded in 2023 after they made a public announcement.
Speaking during an interview with Alex Mwakideu in an episode uploaded on his YouTube channel on Saturday, August 9, 2025, Mejja candidly stated that there was no major factor that contributed to the split.
According to Mejja, the differences began in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic after one member welcomed a newborn, prompting him to avoid physical interaction with them out of fear of going outside and contracting the virus.
Apart from the pandemic, Mejja went on to say that they also started going in different directions in terms of their music careers
“The Kansoul hakuna main issue ilikuwa a factor of many things, 2020 ndio ilianza. One of the member, alikuwa na a newborn hakuwa anataka kutokea tokea alafu ili corona ilikuja vibaya lakini ni limwelewa, and I was just nataka kutoka,” Mejja revealed.
“Pia nafikiri kwa life watu walikuwa wameanza kuenda different directions.“

External factors
The multitalented musician also attributed their split to interference from the outsiders.
“Kitu moja na groups, mkianza munakuwanga wa dogo ki umri kama mimi tukianza the Kansoul sikuwa na mtoto, hatukuwa na families, pia women hawakuwa involved sasa madem na watoto wanacome through, dem wako anakuambia flani anachukua pesa yako,” he added.
“Watu wanaanza kuingilia group na sana sana group watu hawakosani kwa sababu ya wao kwa wao inakuwanga ni outside factors.”
Madtraxx on the Kansoul split
This comes after Madtraxx, during a previous interview, disclosed that they had a mutual understanding since their priorities started shifting.
“Our priorities started shifting at some point when now we most became fathers and priorities kind of shifted. Mejja was more focused on making hit after hit and making money, but to me, I was just doing it because I can experiment,” he said.
“We are still friends, we still talk, and we are still supportive of each other.”
